“Saudade” or the presence of absence: the current exhibition of Gabriel Buttigieg

Good news! There is still time to see the new paintings by Gabriel Buttigieg  in his solo exhibition in Valletta.

“Saudade” is the title of the artshow and means a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. It carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never return.

In his new body of work Gabriel explores with beauty the strained nature of experience. Establishing identity through memory, nothing remains unmoved. Gabriel’s paintings array how cultural memory is a reconstructive affair where through colour, tone, and emotion, specific events are constantly recollected or revalued.

‘Saudade’ started on the 8th November 2018 at Palazzo de la Salle, Republic Street, Valletta, and runs until the 29th November 2018.

Opening hours:
Monday to Friday from 8am- 7pm
Saturdays from 8am-1:30pm
